I bought the plastic cut in Thailand in December last year, took photos of it, brought it back to my home in Japan, and raised it for about two months.
Usually, photographed betta fish brought home are given away to people and are not kept in captivity for long periods of time.
There was a reason as to why I had kept the animal in captivity for two months this time.
This was because I wanted to see how much the body color changes over the course of two months and record it. Those who don't know much about betta fish may think that their color does not change after they become adults.
It is true that some individuals become adults and their coloring becomes subdued and does not change. This tendency is especially strong for monochromatic individuals. However, most betta fish change color even after becoming adults.
In particular, many of the multicolored individuals called marble and fancy fish undergo dramatic changes even after becoming adults. This change in body color after becoming an adult has been written about in the Betta books, and some people may be familiar with it. However, when kept normally, the change is gradual and you may not notice the change in body color.
Therefore, I decided to keep the individual I photographed in December 2 for two months, and then photograph it again to confirm the change in color.
In proceeding with this project, we gathered individuals to serve as models, but we have no idea which individuals will actually change color. For the time being, I prepared about 15 model individuals, relying only on my intuition, and photographed them once around December 10, 2017.
I kept it for two months, and around February 2, XNUMX, I compared it with the photo I took last time.
The plan was a great success!
Some individuals showed quite dramatic color changes. Only those individuals that showed particularly large changes were photographed again.
Out of the 15 individuals, we would like to introduce here the changes in body color of the 6 individuals that had the most significant changes.
If there were before and after photos, anyone would be able to understand that a betta's body color changes so much.
Some individuals change their body color for the better, while others change for the worse.
All of this is difficult to predict.
A reputable betta specialty store will probably explain these color changes in betta fish at the time of sale.
Without knowing anything about it, if the beautiful color of the animal takes a turn for the worse, some customers may mistakenly think that they have been tricked into selling it.
However, this can only be called luck.
Looking at this photo, I would like you to realize that even when a betta fish becomes an adult, its body color varies greatly depending on the individual.
In a sense, I think that changing the color of the body doubles the fun and makes you feel like you've gained something. What do you think?
