No. 95 Splendence Orange

Published in February 2024

Splendense oranges fighting with each other. The beautifully elongated spade tail is beautiful. The red mesh pattern on each fin is also a great accent.

In this column, we have introduced many improved wild varieties.
Most of them were found at a shop in Chatuchak that specializes in wild types. These stores fully understand your tastes, so when a new face becomes available, you'll be approached immediately. Because of this situation, almost all other shops had no mark on the wild type.

One day, I happened to find a fish that caught my eye at a shop I had never been to before. The fish, floating in a plastic bag in a glass case, had a spade tail with an elongated center fin, which was obvious just by looking at it with its fins closed. When I moved the plastic bag so that the fish could see each other, they immediately went into fighting mode. When they spread their fins and their bodies became brighter, their beauty was beyond my imagination.

Splendens orange male with a slightly darker body color. There are individual differences in body color, fin color, and red mesh pattern on the fins.
A male Splendens Orange with a bright orange body color. The area of orange on each fin is large, giving this individual a strong orange impression overall.

At first, I didn't notice it because only the orange color of the fins stood out, but each fin has a red mesh inside.
Judging from its body shape, it was definitely a Splendens of the Benjaron variety, but just to be sure, I asked the shop owner for the name and price of this fish. The shopkeeper's answer was that the name of this fish was Splendens Orange, and although the price was a little high, it was something he would not mind buying in multiples. However, there are no females, only males.

Since the appearance of a strain called Benjaron in the wild type Splendens, the tail fin of the Splendens type wild has become a splendid spade tail, and it can be said that its ornamental value has definitely increased.
However, when it is sold, it is divided into cases where it is given the name Benjaron and cases where it is given only the name of the color Splendence.
In this column, I will introduce the model fish by the name they were given when they were purchased.

The blue spots on its slightly dark body and the red mesh pattern on each of its beautifully elongated fins make it a very eye-catching and beautiful specimen. The tastes differ between these dark-colored individuals and orange-colored individuals.
As a Splendens Orange, it is still young and its tail fin extension and body color are not good, but it is an individual that can be expected to change as it grows.

There were about 10 male Splendens Oranges lined up in the shop. Among them, I selected and purchased one with a beautiful elongation of the tail fin and each fin, and a well-balanced red mesh pattern on each fin.
As usual, selecting individuals in an extremely hot environment is extremely exhausting. It's hard work, especially if you have to bend over or sit half-back to see it.
I always think how much easier it would be to select items while sitting in a cool, air-conditioned shop.

A female Splendens orange with a slight red mesh pattern on its dorsal and caudal fins. For the purpose of breeding, it is essential to obtain such purebred females instead of guessing females.

This Splendens Orange has a beautiful body shape and color, so I would definitely like to see a female one as well.
Even when introducing new faces, the value of information will increase if you can introduce not only males but also females. However, in cases like this, even if I negotiate as a Japanese person, it would be quite difficult due to language limitations. I have experienced that in such a case, the quickest way is to ask your partner, Ton, to negotiate with you.

I immediately called Ton and had him ask the shop owner if he could get some scalpel.
The shop owner said that his friend is breeding this fish, so he asked if he could get a female.
As a result, I was able to have it brought in the following week, but this is where things got tough. When I went to pick it up the next week at the agreed time, I was told that it hadn't arrived yet and I had to wait a little while.
When I went to pick it up again, he looked at the female that had arrived and was told that it could not be sold.
It seems that a female of a different strain than the fish I ordered came.
From there, I called the breeder again and after a lot of back and forth, I finally contacted Ton in the evening and decided to pick it up somewhere.
In the end, I was definitely able to safely receive a female of the same strain.

A female splendens orange with beautiful body color, fin color, and body shape. The ovaries are also slightly visible on the abdomen, so if you can obtain such an individual, you will be able to try breeding right away.

I liked that they were trying to sell proper scalpels instead of tricking them into selling them, but it was a lot of work, and the fact that the labor was added to the price was clearly a Thai businessman. Ta.

I would like you to take a look at the beautiful appearance of the Splendens Orange that I worked so hard to obtain.
