No. 89 Betta Smaragdina Giant XNUMX forms

Published in February 2023

Smaragdina giants fighting fiercely between males. Not only is its green body color beautiful, but its spade-shaped tail fin and each fin are also spectacular. It is about one size larger than the normal Smaragdina, so it has a great presence.

As a wild betta giant, I have previously introduced the Mahachai Giant in this column.
As for the giant betta fish, the plastic cut giant has been around for a long time, and improvements are still being made to this day, and various varieties have been introduced.
Wild type giants are a completely different strain from these Plakat giants, and the history of their creation is also different.
When you hear the name, you might think it's a gigantic, impressive-looking fish, like a plastic cut giant, but it's actually a little bigger than a normal wild, so you shouldn't have too high expectations.

After the Mahachai Giant was released, I thought that a similar giant type would be released, but a wild type giant will not be created until the Smaragdina Giant is released in the spring of 2022. It seems that
I returned to Thailand in the spring of 2022, where coronavirus restrictions had been eased, and bravely went to Chatuchak to see the betta fish.
I didn't pay attention to the many new colors of plastic cuts, so I headed to a shop that mainly focused on wild styles.
After meeting for the first time in a long time and exchanging greetings and celebrating each other's health, Smaragdina Giant showed off his smug look.
It is true that there were many individuals that were large in size and beautiful in form, but honestly, compared to the Mahachai Giant, the impact of their size was a little weaker.
That said, this is a wild betta that I met in Thailand after a long time. If it's recommended to me, I have no choice but to buy it.

A male Smaragdina giant that is different from the previous photo. The green color on the sides of the body is stunning, but the elongated dorsal fin and its color and pattern are also attractive.
This is a different male Smaragdina Giant from the previous two photos. In this individual, the body color is slightly bluish. Even among the original Buriram individuals, individuals with a body color more blue like this seem to appear.

I heard that they were sold in pairs, and the price was reasonable.
So, I bought 3 pairs of the model.
As expected, the fish has grown quite large, and each of its fins has grown wonderfully, making it a fish that I am very excited to photograph as a photographer.
The colors are beautiful, and the center part of the tail fin extends into a spade shape, which is spectacular.
When I asked the shop owner for details about this fish, he told me that it was created by selectively breeding large individuals that appeared while breeding Smaragdina from Buriram.
The company emphasized that it is a purebred Buriram breed that has not been cross-bred with other breeds.
When I saw this Smaragdina Giant, I thought it looked like it was from Buriram, so it makes sense.

A female Smaragdina Giant. Since it is larger than the normal Smaragdina, it seems to spawn more eggs. If we select even larger individuals, we will be able to create even more beautiful strains.

Smaragdina from Buriram seems to be very popular among wild betta fish lovers in Thailand, and several improved varieties have been created.
Another Smaragdina Giant that I would like to introduce is Guitar Giant. This is a fish I encountered when I visited Thailand in October 2022.
As usual, I was looking for new fish at a wild type shop, and the shop owner recommended this fish along with Guitar Carbon.
This Guitar Giant had just been purchased from an acquaintance that morning and displayed at the store, and no one had bought it yet.
From what I hear, it's a pretty good price, and I was also interested to hear that only the males are available, and the females have not been released yet. I had just arrived in Thailand and hadn't finished setting up the aquarium in my room for photography, so I thought about purchasing it for a while.
However, if I don't buy it now, someone else will buy this beautiful specimen, so I have no choice but to buy it.

Guitar giants fight with each other with their fins spread wide. This individual has a wonderfully elongated spade tail, and the detailed patterns on the tail and dorsal fins are also beautiful. In this form, it is about twice as large as a normal individual, so it looks great.
This is a male Guitar Giant that is different from the previous photo. The length of the spade tail is not as long as the previous one, but it is still beautiful enough. The overall color and form are beautiful, and it would take a lot of effort to grow it this big, so it's understandable that the price is high.

I selected two pairs of Guitar Carbon and two top male Guitar Giants. Many people may think that all wild fish look similar, but each individual has a different color and shape, so choosing a model for photography is important.
In particular, this Guitar Giant has the most extended spade tail of any guitar I've seen so far, making it an extremely attractive individual.
If I hadn't chosen it now, it would definitely have been taken away by another maniac on the same day. child
The Guitar Giant was about one size larger than the Smaragdina Giant I had previously acquired, and anyone who saw it would be satisfied with the name Giant.
Even when raising them, I needed a container that was a little larger than the container I usually use for plastic cuts.

When I asked about the details of this Guitar Giant, I was told that it was also created by selectively breeding large individuals from the guitar spadetail, without using blood from other strains. It was a pity that the female was not available for sale since it had just been released, but I hope that the female will be released soon. In addition to the two breeds introduced this time, large strains called giants will also appear in wild betta fish.
