No. 84 Candy Copper

Published in February 2022

It is a candy specimen with a copper body color on a black background. The black base color gives it a very solid look, and the colorfulness of each fin stands out even more. It can be said that it is a fish that connoisseurs like.

In the previous column, I introduced the Copper of Koi Betta, so next I will introduce the Copper of Candy (Nemo).
When I visited Thailand in 2020, Copper was already produced and could be seen at the market.
I wrote about the outstanding price at that time in my previous column. However, even if I try to trace her memory, I can't remember seeing Candy's Copper at that time, or rather, I think I probably didn't see it myself.
Looking at the current state of the market in 2022, it is hard to believe that it has recently appeared on the market.
Perhaps it was already created in 2020, just because I didn't notice it.

An individual with a wide area of copper color on the body and fins. Evaluations will vary widely depending on whether these colors are considered to be tasteful or plain.
A beautiful individual whose color scheme is more silver-white than copper, which balances well with candy's unique orange body color. With its beautiful body shape and fins, it can be said to be a fish that is full of the charm of Candy Copper.

At the time of 2020, the new coronavirus restrictions had just begun, and there were many difficulties in getting around, so I was unable to visit the farm as usual. In particular, farms with elderly residents were refusing visitors, and we also realized this and refrained from visiting.
As of September 2022, when I am writing this manuscript, the number of new infections per day in Thailand is less than 1,000, and it appears as if the virus has completely come to an end. In comparison, the number of new infections in Japan remains high, making me wonder why there is such a difference.
Having said that, as someone who will be visiting Thailand again in October, I have mixed feelings about the fact that Thailand seems to be safer than Japan.

An individual with a black body and a copper color on the back. For eyes tired of gaudy candies, these dark and attractive fish will be a novelty.
The original candy's flashy color scheme remains the same, but the copper color is scattered in a well-balanced manner. This fish seems to be very popular and has a bright image for a copper candy that tends to look rather plain.

This is a bit off-topic, but when I visited Thailand in May 2022, Candy Copper had already become a popular variety, and the price had stabilized.
The Koi Betta and Candy varieties are originally rich in individuality, and no two fish have the same color pattern. When the copper color is added to it, it becomes even more unique and full of charm.

The black accents on the body and fins give it a very fearless image. The copper color is subtle, but the fact that it is scattered to emphasize the scales makes this fish even more attractive.

However, when I asked them about their popularity in the Japanese market, I was told that they have become completely bored with candy these days, and sales are not going well.
It's not hard to understand why, but even new varieties of copper seem to be unpopular.

It's been a long time since I last visited Thailand, and when I saw the affordable and novel Candy Copper, I was excited to select a model, but when I heard about it, I felt very disappointed. Therefore, in order to convey the appeal of candy, we decided to introduce copper before introducing other new varieties. Females of the same copper strain are also readily available at Chatuchak shops. For those who are tired of ordinary candy, we would like you to experience the charm of copper, which is a little different.

An attractive individual with a black marble pattern. The copper color only appears on the tail and dorsal fins, but the overall well-balanced coloring, including the red head, makes this fish look beautiful.
A female with a very beautiful copper-colored marble pattern. I'm glad that female specimens that can clearly be called Candy's Copper are also commonly distributed. I would like you to take up the challenge of breeding using a female like this.
